How does laser hair removal work?
Targeted bursts of light energy are delivered to the problem area and absorbed by hair-filled follicles. Melanin in the hair absorbs the light and turns it to heat energy, damaging the hair follicle and preventing re-growth. Because lasers are targeting Melanin, the colour in the hair, this treatment is unsuitable for those with white hair, certain types of red hair and less successful for grey and very fair types.
Can all hair be treated?
The general principal for hair removal is the darker the hair and the lighter the skin the more successful the treatment.
Treatments are customized according to hair colour, texture and location. Any hair with at least some pigment can be treated, therefore white, white blonde or white/grey hairs do not respond to this treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair grows in three different cycles and any laser hair removal system can only successfully destroy hair during its growth stage. Therefore we recommend a minimum of 6 treatments, 4-8 weeks apart to deliver the best result.
How long do treatments take?
Sessions can last from a few minutes to about an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated (underarms and bikini lines take 5-10 mins whilst full legs can take an hour) The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to specific skin types and colour, thickness and density of hair. Several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results.
It is important to understand that hairs in an active growth phase (anagen) are most affected by treatments. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results.
Is hair removed permanently?
Our laser damages the root of the hair to an extent that significantly impedes re-growth. Most of the roots do not re-grow but occasionally some do. In addition, new hairs from previously empty follicles are developing all the time so it is usually necessary to have an annual 'maintenance' treatment to keep hair free.
Will it hurt?
Most clients report the experience similar to the sensation of a rubber band pinging on your skin.
What happens after treatment?
After the treatment the treated hairs will fall out for up to 14 days. Your skin may be a little red after treatment, but this will calm down quickly and you will able to return to your normal daily routine after treatment. Some people with sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing gel, a cool pack or Aloe Vera for a few hours following treatment.
Are there any side effects?
The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are usually minor. There may be some redness and swelling around the treated hair follicles; this is a desired clinical result indicating that the follicle has responded to treatment. This reaction typically disappears within hours.
Most people return to normal activity right away. On rare occasions, some blistering may occur, but this typically resolves quickly. The skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimize the risk of complications.

I had laser hair on my back as I was embarrassed at exposing it during the summer whilst on holiday.
