Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world, as it effectively enhances the size of the breasts for women who are unhappy with their current appearance. Although this procedure is considered safe, with very low risks, many women are hesitant about putting synthetic materials into the body.If this is you then Lipomeddling maybe the treatment of choice for you.
Our surgeon at LasaDerm is one of the very few surgeons in the UK who can offer an alternative treatment to increase the size of the breasts through more natural means. This is done with lipomodelling, or autologous fat transfer, which moves fat from other areas of the body to the breasts. In addition to expanding the size of the breasts, it is also ideal for creating better symmetry in those with uneven or irregularly shaped breasts. This procedure is performed safely and most effectively by an experienced aesthetic surgeon.
Lipomodelling was originally created for use in breast reconstruction surgery. It was not performed for breast augmentation because of concerns that the increased fat would reduce the accuracy of mammography screenings. However, studies have shown that this is not the case and that lipomodelling is safe as a cosmetic procedure for many women.
This procedure has many benefits over traditional breast augmentation with implants, including:
In addition to improving the appearance of the breasts, patients are also able to lose unwanted fat from the lower body in the same procedure, for an overall more sculpted appearance.
This procedure is ideal for nearly any woman considering breast augmentation but does not want to use synthetic implants. It is important for women to be in good overall health and have enough body fat available to augment the breasts. Like any other cosmetic procedures, women should have realistic expectations for this procedure. During your consultation, our specialist surgeon will be able to advise you what lipomodelling can realistically achieve for you.
Our lipomodelling technique achieves natural breast augmentation through fat transfer by undergoing two surgical procedures on the same day. Firstly, the fat to be used in the breasts is harvested from the body, most commonly the lower abdomen, buttocks or thighs. This is done by suctioning the fat out through a cannula, similar to the techniques used in liposuction. The harvested fat cells are purified and then injected into small incisions within the breasts. Correct placement is essential, both for the smoothest, most even appearance of the breasts and to increase the likelihood of fat cell survival.
The whole procedure generally takes two hours to perform. Patients can usually return to work and other light activities after a week. In some cases, two to three fat transfer procedures may be needed in order to achieve desired results. Some portion of the injected fat may be absorbed by the body and not deliver expected results during the initial procedure. The outcome is generally best for those seeking a small to moderate change in breast size, as most patients can increase by one to two cup sizes.
As with any surgical procedure, lipomodelling can result in some complications. The risks typically include the failure of transplanted fat cells to survive in the breast or reabsorption of the fat cells into the body, which may result in uneven, lumpy or barely changed breasts. Other possible risks involve the transferred fat calcifying, creating scar tissue or forming a cyst within the breast. When undergoing a mammogram, it is important to inform the radiologist that you have undergone lipomodelling to your breasts.
This method of augmentation may also require several procedures to reach the desired breast size. If a patient's weight does not remain fairly stable after the surgery, the breasts may become larger or smaller along with the fluctuation.
