What is IPL?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL is a safe and effective way of removing unwanted hair. Hair growth is reduced and removed by a series of treatments using controlled light impulses (IPL) on to the area which is known as photo depilation. The light is absorbed by the hair pigmentation and travels to heat the follicle and destroy it without damage to the surrounding tissue (photothermolysis).

Why have IPL Hair Removal?

How Laser Hair Removal Works
The treatment works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in the hair with the light from the system, and upon absorption the light is converted into heat. This intense heat action breaks down the hair follicle, reducing the opportunity for any re-growth and also changing the entire structure of the follicle itself; overtime altering the density and appearance of the hair until it becomes unnoticeable.

Prior to treatment the area must be shaved and a thin layer of protective / cooling gel is applied to maximise absorption. Finally the IPL system is run over the area and a succession of light pulses is filtered into the hair follicle. This will give you a sensation of a rubber band pinging on your skin. The unique square head technology used in the M22 offers precision and accuracy that ensures that any risk of side effects is minimal.

Number of Hair Removal Treatments
Hair grows in three different cycles and any laser / IPL hair removal system can only successfully destroy hair during its growth stage. Therefore we recommend a minimum of 6 treatments, 4-8 weeks apart to deliver the best results.

Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
To ensure that as many hair follicles are targeted as possible it is also important not to wax or epilate for at least four weeks prior to your treatment. Shaving is permitted prior and during the course of treatment. Exposure to the sun or sun treatments, or having a tan (natural or fake) will raise the pigment level within the skin and have an effect on the success of the treatment.

Skin type is a fundamental effecting factor in this treatment and we will take a full history on how your skin reacts to various factors such as sunlight. We will also take in to account other possible health issues and medication that you may already be taking.

Post Treatment
There is little post-treatment care required. Some people with sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing gel, a cool pack or Aloe Vera for a few hours following treatment.
